Make Money With Affiliate Products And Services

As in all other business ventures, making money online when you’re just starting out takes a bit of effort. There’s quite a few things out there that you need to learn before you start pulling in the big bucks. But that doesn’t mean that in the meantime you have to starve. There are a few ways to put some quick money in your pocket. This will give you the money to keep going, and more importantly, the confidence that this business model works. As a beginner, whatever method you choose has to have three main characteristics: it has to be simple, it has to be cheap, and it’s got to be profitable not only in the long term, but in the short term as well.
One of the money making methods that meets all three criteria is affiliate marketing. The premise of affiliate marketing is simple: you promote someone else’s product or service, drive traffic to their website, and when those visitors do what is required of them (make a purchase, fill a form, take a survey), you get paid a commission. It’s a very simple business concept. It’s also very cheap, actually as cheap as it gets since affiliate marketing programs are free to join. And it can very quickly bring you money: most affiliate programs pay you this month’s commissions by the end of the following month.
The biggest advantage to affiliate programs is that you don’t have to create anything. There are so many programs out there that no matter your interest, you’re bound to find something that you’re comfortable promoting and can make money with. The products and services already have their own sales copy, written by professionals, they have been tested to convert, and you don’t have to worry about any of the backend stuff like payment processing and customer service. You just supply the traffic, and collect your commissions.
There are drawbacks too, of course. The biggest one is that affiliate programs come and go, so there’s always the off chance that you don’t get paid your commissions. The other issue is that you don’t have much control over the sales copy on the landing page, because it’s supplied by the company. But this is a minor inconvenience. The main thing is that you should do your research and, as much as possible, promote affiliate programs that have a proven track record of good conversions and timely payouts.
Speaking of payouts, you should avoid making this huge mistake that most people make when they start a new online affiliate business. When you’re new to the affiliate programs field, the temptation is strong to choose products to promote based on the commission percentage that they pay. Experience will teach you that a high commission is hardly a guarantee that you can make money with a program. If the commission is that high, there has to be a reason behind it, and most of the time the reason is that the product doesn’t sell that well. The high commission serves as a lure to get a lot of people to promote it, and in fact most of these people will never make money. Never choose affiliate products to promote on the sole basis of how much commission they pay.
The programs you choose to promote should be first dictated by the content on your site. If you have a health and fitness website, you should promote only health and fitness related products, for the simple reason that this is what your site’s visitors are interested in, and as such you will have better conversions with those programs. Plastering a credit repair banner on your site will generate little to no conversions, and that high commission will ultimately mean nothing.
Another mistake that you should avoid making is joining too many affiliate programs. If you’re starting out, as previously said, there are a lot of things that you will have to learn before you can eventually make a living out of this business. Deciding to promote, for example, twelve different products and services will only result in you spreading yourself too thin to make money at any of them. Plus, you WILL make mistakes, and the more programs you’ve joined, the more time-consuming it will be to go to each one of your websites and correct the mistakes. It’s much better to work 2 or 3 products, do it effectively, and once those are doing well, you keep adding more products to your portfolio.
Making money with affiliate programs can be both very easy and pretty demanding, depending on what level of income you want to reach. But the main thing you have to keep in mind is that it’s one of the most accessible methods for beginners to start making some serious money online.
