Make Money On eBay

Out of all the possible ways to make money online fast, selling items on eBay has to be the one that’s most accessible to beginners. Almost everyone has a bunch of stuff that can be sold on eBay for some quick cash, stuff like clothing, jewelry, old CDs & DVDs, books, and the list goes on and on. If you feel that what you have isn’t really going to give you that much money, then why not ask your friends if you can pick up what they have and don’t want? You know the saying, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. You could land some items that produce you a healthy profit. And who knows? Maybe that could be the start of a successful venture as an eBay seller.
At the beginning, making money online with eBay is not very complicated. All you need is a few items, a camera to take the pictures, a description, and you’re good to go. But if you’re planning to take this thing to the next level, then you’re going to need to be organized because you’ll have to handle payment processing, packaging, and shipment without a fault. In short, let’s just say that selling a couple items here and there is a hobby, making a living on eBay is a business, and will have to be treated as such.
In order to find items to sell on eBay, you also have to be a little resourceful so that you can find them at the best possible price. The best way to do that is to look to buy seasonal items in the few days that follow the end of the season: for example, buying Halloween costumes and decorations shortly after the holiday, or Christmas lights and decorations after December 25th. You only need to account for the space to store them until the next year.
When building an eBay business, some people don’t want to be bothered with keeping inventory, and all the little details that are involved in running a business from home, and they choose instead to find a dropshipper. The concept is that the company handles everything, all you do is send them the buyers, and you get a cut of the profits. There are to major hurdles to overcome with this approach. First off, finding a good, reliable dropshipping company is not easy. Secondly, and this is very important, the products you sell will be generic, meaning that you’ll be competing with potentially hundreds of others selling the exact same product.
Many of the people who have had great success selling on eBay have either managed to get generic products at very low prices, or go the opposite route and sell hard-to-find products for a good profit margin. We personally suggest going that route. Here’s why:
- If you’re selling hard-to-find items or collectibles, your buyers are more targeted and more willing to spend. Plus, there’s always the chance that this item that you think is hardly worth $10 is worth over $200 to some collector.
- When your products are unique, you have little or no competition
- Again, since your products are not easily available, you can charge as much as you can. The worst that can happen is that you get no buyers and have to lower the price.
Three final words of advice:
- Look at the descriptions of the products that are selling well, and emulate them on your products. Giving great detail always helps with sales.
- Avoid competing against yourself. If you’re selling a supposedly hard to find item, don’t go out there and display units of it! If only one is displayed, people will naturally assume that it’s rare, and will be more inclined to buy it, as opposed to seeing several of it. In the latter case, there’s no urgency and they just put off the purchase.
- Ship promptly and give good customer service in order to build positive feedback. This is important for your future as an eBay seller.
